Glycerin Soaps

Cold process soaps are my favorite to make, but the glycerin soaps are quite popular so I took a break one weekend to get the glycerin soaps stocked back up...I soaped my lil heart out making 12 different scents.

The black cherry soap came out so pretty....

The pumpkin is my favorite scent this time of year...

Citrus Cilantro is a new scent I received a sample of in an order, this soap also came out very pretty.

Happy Autumn

Today is the first day of Fall. I love Fall, it is my favorite time of year. That crispness in the air...opening the windows and doors to air out the house...the lower electric bill! lol

This weekend I was going to take the day off from soaping and just make cards, so I made my Fall cards. Oh trust me...there was still some soap made...just cant help myself I guess. But we will save the soapy posts for later in the week, today is all about Fall...and today it is gusting in and saying hello in a big way here in Arizona. Funny to be 100 degrees yesterday, and today it is 75 and very windy. Gotta love it.

I looked online in search of a Fall card to CASE, but I couldn't find anything I could work with. There were some I liked...but I cannot believe I don't have one single leaf stamp...going to have to remedy that. So I put my creative hat on and went to work and here is what I came up with.

I made a card and matching post it note holder. I still have to get the mini pens to complete the set, but the hard part is done.

All products used today are Stampin' Up...To make the card I first sponged around the edges of Whisper White with Early Espresso ink. Then I ran a 1-1/2 inch wide strip of Crumb Cake colored paper through my Big Shot with the Woodgrain embossing folder and then I sponged Early Espresso ink on it to bring the wood grain to life.

I stamped a tree branch from the Out on a Limb stamp set and punched Fall colored leaves using the Bird Punch. The owl on the limb is lifted up with dimensionals.

The owls were made with the Owl Punch and DSP for their chests.

For the eyes the upper left owl has jewels, and the lower right owl has the medium sized eyes from the Owl Punch punched out with Crumb Cake colored paper and the pupils were markered in by hand.

I adhered the tree trunk on and then punched a 1-1/14 inch circle through the card...

...and I added the owl on the inside of the card to "peek-a-boo" through to the front.

Next up were the post it notes. I watched the tutorial video over at Dawn's Stamping Studio...Dawn makes it so easy to follow...I made 10 of them so fast.

I used the same owl as the card, using orange jewels I found at Walmart for the eyes. The paper is Pumpkin Pie topped with Crumb Cake paper that was run through the Big Shot with the Woodgrain embossing folder.

Carrot Soap

Another new soap for me...I was pretty excited about this one. I used 100% carrot juice in place of  the water when mixing the lye solution.

I added no colorants, I just used the natural color from the carrot juice, but I did add carrot seed essential oil to add a touch more luxury to the soap.

Carrot seed essential oil doesn’t come from the typical orange carrots we have for dinner, but is actually an extract from the seed of the carrot plant known as Daucus carota, which is also known as “Queen Anne’s Lace”.

This biennial herb, with beautiful umbrella-shaped white lacy flowers, is said to have earned its common name from a legend that tells of Queen Anne of England (1665-1714) pricking her finger while sewing and a drop of blood landed on the white lace.

Carrot seed essential oil is high in antioxidants, and is a great aid for healthy skin. It adds tone and elasticity to the skin making it a fabulous addition to facial creams, but its rich and earthy aroma can tend to turn some people away. I personally enjoy the scent very much.

Containing beta carotene and vitamin A, carrot seed essential oil can be used to improve the complexion, is said to be an anti-aging oil to help prevent wrinkles and is perfect for all skin types.

Spearmint and Cucumber Cantaloupe

Today we made two different soaps...First up was Spearmint Essential Oil. This essential oil soaps like a dream...smells fabulous...and always sells out fast.

 

 

 

Next up is Cucumber Cantaloupe, another wonderful smelling soap that doesn't stay on the shelves long.

 

 

Another Soap Trio

I tried another day of soaping a trio of soaps...what a day!!
I measured my lye and I paused to see where I was at and the scale stopped at 6.66oz...I shook my head and just knew the day wasn't going to go well. I then went to melt my oils and I tripped the breaker so no microwave, and worse yet....no coffee maker! So things are now on hold until The Hubs gets home from work, luckily his days start at dawn so he would be home soon. When he got home we decided to go out to lunch...a good mental regroup. When we got home I started right in with our sweet pea and rhubarb soap....

I tried something new...don't ask...it was soooo not working so I just tried to salvage a swirl in each section because I had already inserted the dividers. grrrrr

Up next was bay rum....just what I needed, a no color no frill soap. This fragrance oil will seize on me so I add the fragrance oil after I bring it to a light trace, and this one went nice and smooth.

Last for today is the one I was most looking forward to...there is always one in the bunch I am more excited about than the others. This is an unscented soap with pumpkin puree. I added pumpkin puree to my cooled oils at the ratio of one oz per pound of oils...and this batch has 24oz of oils so I added 1.5oz of pumpkin, and subtracted that amount of water when I mixed my lye earlier.

This puppy was one slow tracer. I didn't want a ton of air bubbles with so much stick blending so I kept alternating with hand stirring. Finally poured this wonderful natural smelling soap into the mold and I thought I would try one of those fabulous textured tops I see soapers do. You can see how far I got. I had the kitchen all cleaned up and my batter was still too soft and by this point I was too tired to continue to wait, so I called it good and put it to bed.

Side note of my added frustration...while I was soaping The Hubs went out to weed eat the jungle the rain has caused. He told me something has dug a hole under the fence (most likely the coyote stalking lil pup)...I open the blind to look...and we discover our bedroom window is shattered, a rock from the weed eater must have kicked up...I just knew this day wasn't going to be good...but in the end I soaped safely and its just a window...it could be worse.
(update: the next day Baby Girls boyfriend found his back window cracked from the weed eater as well....oopsie! Expensive day for The Hubs)

So how did our soaps come out?

 

The sweet pea & rhubarb (above) and the Bay Rum (below) came out  nicely.

 

And what about the punkin soap?...I love it!! Now...as much as I love it, I don't think I will gel it when I make it again. I had some extra batter left over that I poured into another mold that I left uncovered on the counter and as you can see in the picture below, the color is a nice rich yellow, which I think I prefer better. What do you think?

Soap Trio

Today I am soaping a trio of soaps...livin' large today. :)

First up was apple orchard...I was most looking forward to this one...and it thickened on me. UGH! I barely hit the stick blender and it moved to soap in a blink of an eye. Now most people would probably just shove into the mold...me? Oh no I am too stubborn for that...
 

 

...I am getting color in this soap! So I divide off not one but 2...a red and some soap batter with titanium dioxide...and I forced into the mold with big glops of my spatula...oh such disappointment here...crossing fingers.

Next up is sweet pea. such a pretty scent.

I also made lilac, but forgot a picture of it in the mold...three soap batches back to back to back...tiring. So I was thankful a photo was all that was forgotten. :) 

 

Here are our finished floral soaps...lilac above which I keep pretty simple with just a white topper. and below is the sweet pea...where my pink morphed...

 

 

...oh you silly soap gremlins were having too much fun with me today....now how about that apple orchard scent that thickened much to fast for me....  

 



 

LOVE IT!! It actually came out and looks wonderful to me!!
