Motorcycle Diaper Cake

My niece is having a baby and for her shower gift my daughter found the cutest idea for a diaper cake, you can find step by step instructions over at Sweet Aprils blog.

First we gathered our needed supplies...

Fanned the diapers using a cake pan as a guide...

Make 2 and hold together with rubber bands...

Wrap ribbon to hide the rubber bands securing with safety pins...

And we have our 2 completed "tires"...

Roll 2 receiving blankets...

And connect the 2 tires together with 1, and put the other through just the front, lay down a bib for a fender over the tire...

Secure the handle bars with a teething ring over a bottle for the "headlight"...

We added mittens for the handle bars and Voila! How cute is this diaper cake??

Miss sock monkey is riding in style with her beanie helmet. :)

A diaper bag was added to the gift for the remaining diapers and other essentials.

Palm Springs Trip 02/09/13

The Hubs and I have not taken some "us" time in a very long time, and we havent been back "home" to visit family in an even longer time, so we combined the two and had a quick 3 day weekend getaway to Palm Springs where I grew up. Here the city of Indio pops out of nowhere...almost there...

Still not a fan of all the windmills everywhere...

Oh yeah, and still not a fan of the sand blizzards, those I do not miss!!

As is our luck a storm was moving in on the day we arrived...

When we go to Grandmas I always sleep in Grandpas room, where I am out like a light and sleep like a baby. She had the photo quilt on the bed this time, I made this for them years ago...

The next morning we awoke to a gorgoeus day!

No trip to PS is ever complete without breakfast at Billy Reeds...
Where a cinnamon roll is an absolute must! I grew up on these babies and we always bring a bunch home, Billy Reeds has the best!! Oh and the home fries were pretty darn good this trip.

Grandma and I...

Also in town was the "Tour de Palm Springs"..I cant believe they let us drive down the road with them instead of closing off the roads...made me a wee bit nervous.

Tourist time for The Hubs and I, only 2 things we wanted to do besides family visting....
Tour Ruddy's General Store...
Where my favorite part was his pharmacy collection...beyond neat to see!!!

Of course we had to check out the soap display...

Second on the agenda was the huge Marilyn Monroe statue on display for a year in Palm Springs, that was a site to see...I am so dwarfed by her.

The Tour de Palm Springs finish line was right there, so we watched a few riders come in.

And that concludes our trip, we enjoyed getting away and seeing our loved ones.

A side note on our trip....my grandma has been feeding the same stray cats for 13 years now...started out as a momma and 5 babies, only 2 babies left after all these years, they are scared of their own shadow and you cannot get near them but they get their dry food at night and she gives them warmed milk in the morning, she cracks me up.

January 2013 Card Class - 2 of 4

Next from Januarys card class is this wonderful vintage looking card, this makes a great card for a man.

I just love the newprint paper, and when you sponge around the edge with some color, it adds a great vintage look.

This stamp set "Feeling Sentimental" is also from the sale-a-bration catalog. The set includes a "celebrate" word stamp, a ferris wheel and an old fashioned phone booth...which makes me think of Dr Who (my moms fave show)

Valentines Care Package

Sending a Valentines care package to someone working out and trying to be healthy isnt easy...because you have to have some Valentine Love...yes even from your parents. So I made it a half and half box, half Valentines fun (he will just have to work out a bit more this week.)

The other half I tried to find some healthy options. I will admit, when I think of healthy I think fresh fruits and veggies...but that doesnt work when sending a box to Afghanstan, so here is what I came up with...

Dried fruit, nuts, granola bars, salsa and triscuits, soup and slim jims...I know not healthy but better than cookies and candy.

So blog readers...help me out here... what healthy items could I send that do not need refrigeration and are good for at least a couple weeks...mail time alone is at least 7 days...

Polenta Pizza

Super Bowl Sunday means homemade pizza, not sure how this tradition got started but The Hubs looks forward to his pizza every superbowl. This year I am trying to be a bit healthier so I made his...and something different for me, polenta pizza I saw over at Forks over Knives...My polenta "crust" is on the right, and The Hubs traditional pizza is getting sauced on the left.

I made a basil pesto sauce....

Put a thin layer on and then layered potatoes I had thinly sliced and steamed, on top of that goes caramelized onions...the onions didnt get "caramelized" but they were cooked and sprinkled over the potatoes.

On top of all of that we sprinkled nutritional yeast...and to make it "my own" I of course had to add pineapple, because I LOVE pineapple on my pizza.

I really liked it, Baby Girl does not care for pesto so she didnt like it so much, but we have an idea to change it up so look for that post in the future...but for me, I thought it was really good, the hardest part was cooking the polenta...oh and slicing my finger on the slicer...luckily it was the last swipe, but I was so close to an incident free cooking session...so close.

Made my First Green Smoothie...

....and I loved it!!

There are so many recipes out there, but I think you can just basically add whatever you like. I gathered all of my ingredients...Juice from a lemon, celery, cucumber, parsley, kale, an apple and spinach. I threw everything into my vitamix and blended away.

Look at this beautiful green smoothie....down the hatch!!

What is your favorite smoothie?
